glory of incessant naam-japa
Realization in course of Incessant NAAM-JAPA
- KUNDALINI POWER AND ITS MANIFESTATION (as realized by five sense organs)
Disciple: Often I hear very pleasant sound coming from within, what is that?
Sadguru: It is called ANAAHAT-NAAD or unhurt sound*. It is generated within the body and heard when mind is tranquil. It is so enchanting that even snakes climb the body of an aspirant to enjoy the sound. (The frequencies vary like the notes of an octave and may be rhythmic or continuous).
Disciple: While on NAAM-JAPA effulgent light of varying colors appear in vision. What should be done at that time?
Sadguru: You should treat that fondly. If ignored it stops appearing. But you should not hanker for it as well. Keeping up in NAAM-JAPA those appear again and again.
Disciple: Do the different colors represent different attributes?
Sadguru: Yes! The yellow represents the gross (earth), white- the fluid (water), red- the energy (fire), azure- the unconfined (air), blue black- the Omni permeable (ether).
White color represents purity, red –the creativity, yellow- knowledge, blue black represents annihilation (as in a deep trance), white is conducive of devotion.
Disciple: Where from these (light and sound) generated? Do they come from inside or outside? Do they have any relation with the soul (ATMA)?
Sadguru: They sprout from the branches of nerve terminals in the spinal cord connecting the limbs and organs known as CHAKRA. Out of numerous CHAKRAS ten are predominant, (some say six).
The CHAKRAS gain power initially from the gross body, then it penetrates into the finer body, then to the casual body and ultimately reflects on the soul (Atma). It can not be understood by words or reading. It is a matter of realization. They help to increase the concentration of mind.
*Commonly we hear air borne waves are generated when two objects strike with each other (hurt sound). There are electro-magnetic waves (Pran Vayu) felt within the body as heat, sound and light generated out of bio-chemical reaction in the process of metabolism. During NAAM-YOGA these can be heard as sound waves known as Anahata-Naad (Unhurt sound) when in middle frequencies and as light of various colors when in higher frequencies.
- CONDENSATION OF LIGHT & SOUND as shape & language (Roop and NAAM)
Disciple: The lights sometimes take tangible shape. What are they?
Sadguru: It happens during the course of NAAM-JAPA. At the earlier stage shadows and shapes are seen in short glimpses. Gradually it becomes clear and stays able for longer time. Then the shapes assume as known forms and clearly visible as still photographs. At last they start moving and communicate with gestures.
The unhurt sounds also condescend into verbal tones and gradually communicate in concurrence with the visible forms and start chatting.
The manifest form of Gods and Goddesses, incarnate saints and messiahs not only of your faith or country but of different faiths and countries ever worshipped or revered anywhere in the world, known or unknown, belonging in the civilized world or the pagans start appearing before your vision. Similarly smell is associated with vision and sound. All the five inner sensual organs are associated with these experiences. The devotee should not ignore these experiences as illusion or imaginary. The prerequisite of these experiences is the tranquility of mind. More the tranquility more vivid are these communications (dialogues, VISION etc).
Disciple: On the way of NAAM-JAPA some get vision of gods &goddesses frequently and some do not get at all. Why it happen so?
Sadguru: These visions are related to one’s intense desires of the past lives*.These visions are reflected on the tranquil mental plane. Those who have no desire don’t get these visions. They only get the vision of their GURU. All other visionary forms merge in the form of GURU.
* The whole structure of Indian spiritualism stands on the foundation of rebirth of soul for evolution till the veil that separates him from God, is removed.
Disciple: What benefit one gets out of these vision?
Sadguru: These communications increase faith & zeal in your spiritual pursuit. But it does not in itself directly free you from the worldly bondage.
Disciple: Worship of Trinity, Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva (the creator, nourisher and annihilator, the three attributed Gods) is said to be necessary for liberation.
Sadguru: Yes, it is true only when one worships with a desire of total liberation and consider them as the representatives of the one & the supreme God and not as separate entities with attributes.
- Vision of soul & Gross body as separate entities (Darshan of Atma & body as-Separate)
Disciple: While in NAAM-JAPA I saw a brilliant and clear image of my own self but wearing the signs of an ascetic. What does it signify?
Sadguru: It is a vision of your spirit or soul (Jeevatma). When the ego, lest, pride etc, are subdues such vision appear. If the vision is frequent then it denotes that you have crossed a milestone. Henceforth the inner gaze becomes stronger. An aspirant should not tell these experiences to others. It may cause delay in his progress.
Disciple: How does it help in reaching our target i. e. “liberation”?
Sadguru: With the vision of the self an aspirant’s faith turns into conviction that the gross body and spirit are two separate entities. Then the soul(jeevatma) thrives for a union with the super soul (Param atma), the God.
If by the grace of God that union is stabilized, even if momentarily, Your ‘I ‘ness (ego) melts, all your doubts vanish and worldly activities are subdued.
Disciple: Is that liberation?
Sadguru: No, but it portends that. NAAM-JAPA becomes spontaneous (meaning that the mind remains fixed at gazing the “BREATHING & NAAM” duo for long hours) and the joy of "NAAM" starts unfolding. The aspirant realizes the inner meaning of "NAME IS GOD".
At the moment the sense of the external world and even that of his own body disappear, yet the inner sense of NAAM-JAPA and the rapture thereby remains stronger.
Disciple: Is that joy* the same that scriptures say as the unbounded perennial joy of the “ANAND” part of Sat-chit-anand that is, ultimate truth (Sat), supreme consciousness (Chit) and the perennial rapture (Anand)?
Sadguru: Yes, the joy or rapture, part of Sat-chit-Anand, is comparable to the joy that is received during spontaneous and intense NAAM-JAPA. Yet it is not complete liberation (it is Naamanda).
*Every bit of God’s creation is an outcome of HIS joy; it lives in His joy and merges in HIS joy. That’s why all creatures under veil unknowingly search for that joy and run after ephemeral pleasures and get sorrows as the other side of the coin.
